Baseball players think the golf swing is vertical and the baseball swing is horizontal, so they try to bridge that gap by lifting their arms. That’s the problem.
What most players believe
That golf is a vertical swing and baseball is a horizontal one, so closing the gap means lifting the arms to get the club up and over the ball.
What we tell you instead
Don’t lift. Blend better throwing mechanics, footwork, and weight transfer into the powerful baseball swing you already have.
The same sequence and motion that throws a baseball fast and accurate — a pitching motion — will throw a golf ball down the fairway long and accurate too.
— Don Peterson, from the chapter “Don’t Blame Baseball”
How Don Teaches
Baseball is the language
Don leans on baseball cues constantly — because the words already mean something to a player who grew up on a diamond.
Hitting to Right Field
Staying inside the ball, like a hitter going oppo — keeps the clubface square through impact.
Step and Throw
A fielder’s step into the throw becomes the lower body leading the downswing.
Rock 'n Fire
Load, then fire — the same rhythm a pitcher uses, applied to backswing and downswing.
Pickle Drill
Borrowed from a rundown between bases — quick, athletic direction changes over a stiff takeaway.
Wind Up and Deliver
A pitcher’s unhurried gather before delivery, instead of rushing from the top.
The Bridge
The Golfer's Tee Box
A baseball throw meets its target around the belt or knees. A golf ball sits on the ground. The Golfer’s Tee Box closes that gap in stages — lowering the same throw to the turf without losing your rotational power.
Every stage down, the same throw stays in the swing. One motion, lowered five times — not five new motions.
