Thumbs Down On This David Duval Realease TIP
Hey everyone, Don Peterson with Miyagi for golf. just like everyone else I look at all these tips that get sent to me and this particular one I think came on Instagram. it's David Duvall who you know Georgia native or actually I don't know if he came from Georgia but he went to Georgia Tech and a great player one of the best ball strikers of all time I was able to talk to him a couple times about his golf swing over at Northcrest Academy
he stopped in there one time to practice with the team. but anyway, this particular tip I kind of disagree with him on and I'll share my reasons why. let's take a look at at what he says and and then I'll dissect it so I can just really get that motion and feel that speed of just doing this and you can see my wrist is just breaking this way it's not rolling there's none of this I'm just that's what most people would practice is that roll over right I'm just this I'm releasing the golf club the golf club's getting over here really well okay so you just heard what he said he's talking about a release where you know your right hand release is more this way and no rolling is what he was saying so obviously one of the things you gotta look at is where is he coming from? well he has a very strong grip so if you look at Duvall's grip he gets his hands on there pretty strong and when he hits he has a lot of hips open and he has a very late release so when he releases the club it's more on the ball it's not early
and what I see most of the time with amateurs who who release like this that happens way early way before they get to the ball so then they're grounding out they don't have their hips open like David does so the other thing is when you take a a grip that's more neutral not as strong so you know like I said his palms were turned left palm down right palm up for a right handed golfer and he he was probably a three knuckle guy so he saw a lot of his hand obviously if he lets that release happen – a roll release then that's gonna be duck hook for him
he's gonna be sending that ball dead left so he felt like he was letting it release a little bit more this way which doesn't really close the club face it but it does allow a kind of a release of the club shaft and and higher club head speed so I think that's what he was doing again he had his hips wide open had a lot of forward shaft lean
and his release was right here and to him that was just his right hand doing that now it wasn't rolling
probably because he had that strong grip so as far as I go on this one I love David, he's a great player… but thumbs down on this one for you David on this tip, haha!
